Federal Income Limits for SSI in 2025

The Social Security Administration (SSA) sets the federal income limits for SSI eligibility. In 2025:

  • Individual Income Limit: An individual can earn up to $2,019 per month from work.
  • Couple Income Limit: A couple can earn up to $3,019 per month from work.

These limits are subject to change and may vary based on specific circumstances.

Resource Limits for SSI in Pennsylvania

In addition to income limits, SSI applicants must also meet resource limits:

  • Individual Resource Limit: An individual must have less than $2,000 in countable resources.
  • Couple Resource Limit: A couple must have less than $3,000 in countable resources.

Certain resources, such as your primary residence and one vehicle, are typically not counted toward these limits.

Income That Counts Toward SSI Limits

Not all income is counted equally. The SSA considers various types of income:

  • Earned Income: Wages from employment or self-employment.
  • Unearned Income: Social Security benefits, pensions, unemployment benefits, and other sources.

For every $2 you earn from work, your SSI payment is reduced by $1. For every $1 you receive from unearned income, your SSI payment is also reduced by $1.

Pennsylvania State Supplement

In Pennsylvania, eligible SSI recipients receive an additional state supplement:

  • Individual Supplement: Approximately $22.10 per month.
  • Couple Supplement: Approximately $44.20 per month.

These amounts are added to the federal SSI payment and are intended to help cover the cost of living.
